One morning recently, I awoke at 4am. I tried to go back to sleep for a few minutes, however, sleep eluded me. As I lay there, God began to speak to me about the season we are in. He said it was birthing time. He shared with me that if we are to successfully birth during this season, we will have to press in. If we do not press in, we may miss this harvest season.
After God stopped speaking to me, I got up and walked down my hallway. My plan was to ponder these words in a few hours after I had a little more sleep. I thought about turning on a movie I watch at times to help me go back to sleep. We have limited clean movies on television. For that reason alone, I have watched this one many times.
As that thought went through my mind, God again began to speak to me. He said, “Although they (movies) may not be hurting you, they are not helping you.” He continued talking and said, “They will not help you breakthrough, they will not assist in giving birth. You’re going to have to keep your eyes and ears on Me alone during this season…get your eyes on Me and keep them there.”
They are not hurting you – but they are not helping you. How many things do we partner with in life that may not be hurtful but are not helpful in our spiritual walk? Things that aren’t sin yet aren’t conducive to advancing in our walk with God. I am reminded of a scripture in 1 Corinthians.
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. (1 Cor 6:12)
Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power. (AMP)

When I did a word search on the word, expedient, I was enlightened. It means to bring together, to bestow an advantage and to be profitable. It comes from root words that mean to bring to completeness, to bear and to bring forth. AHA!
So, God was telling me, although the movie isn’t harmful, in this season of birthing, they will not help you come to a place of completeness. They will not assist in bringing forth what you are about to see in this season. Wow! That is so good, don’t you think?
Again, I ask. How many things are we involved in that are not sinful but are not helping us to reach where we desire to go in God? What things are we spending our time on that are not conducive to giving birth to all God has for us? Take a moment and think about it.
Are those things worth your time? Especially in this season of birthing?
Are there things in your life that are time consuming yet are not conducive to birthing all God has for you? If so, in this season, we need to lay them aside. We need to, just as God said, get our eyes and ears upon Him and keep them there. It is vital we see His plan and purpose. It is important we hear His voice alone.
I understand harvest seasons and I realize if I miss this harvest season, I may very well have to go through another time of sowing, tilling the ground, hoping for rain, removing weeds and waiting for the harvest. I don’t want to do that. If God says harvest season is here and it is time to give birth, then it is. May we embrace this season and see all God has for us come to a place of fulfillment.
